Mission Statement 

Russet House School is an inclusive and supportive community which celebrates strengths and differences, and where everyone learns and grows together.

Pupils learn to build relationships, develop independence, gain knowledge and skills, and achieve their full potential, in order to improve the children’s and families’ quality of life. 


  • To provide a broad, balanced, relevant curriculum for pupils with autism which includes access to the Early Years Foundation and National Curriculum at appropriate levels.
  • To maximise potential and raise levels of achievement in pupils with autism, particularly in the areas of learning, communication, personal, emotional, social development and independence.
  • To provide a range of teaching methods and interventions informed by knowledge and understanding of autism.
  • To create a learning environment which encourages the physical and emotional wellbeing of all pupils and promotes confidence, independence and encourages flexibility of thought.
  • To teach appropriate and socially acceptable behaviour through individual and group learning experiences taking into account the nature of autism.
  • To establish positive links with the local community and provide training for local services as required in order to raise awareness of autism.
  • To provide multi-disciplinary assessment, therapies and teaching in an environment where all professionals work collaboratively to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • To promote honesty, courtesy, self-discipline, tolerance and respect for others and their beliefs.          
  • To provide a learning context that reflects the diversity of pupils and offers equal opportunities for all.                                                                      
  • To develop and maintain an experienced and well-trained team and provide opportunities for ongoing staff development and training, particularly in the area of autism.
  • To create an environment where all staff and children are valued for their contribution to all aspects of school life.
  • To create an environment where confidentiality is respected and training and support is offered to parents who are partners in an interactive team.      
  • To provide a physical environment designed to meet the needs of pupils with autism.
  • To provide inclusion opportunities into mainstream school where appropriate.
  • To promote inclusive education through training and by working in partnership with other special and mainstream schools.
